Glendale school enrollment takes a drop

There are nearly 140 fewer students enrolled in Glendale Unified this school year than there were last year, according to district officials.

Based on the state funding formula used last school year, the drop in enrollment would mean a loss to the district of about $722,800. Calculations for this year’s funding have not been finalized.

While the district’s middle and high schools saw sharp reductions in students, the elementary schools reported a significant jump in enrollment.

Two weeks into the school year, Glendale schools had 25,979 students registered. The figure marks a decrease of 139 students from the same time last year, when district officials reported that 26,118 students had registered.

The district’s four middle schools and four high schools have collectively seen a decrease of 530 students this year, said Lynn Marso, assistant superintendent of Glendale Unified.

Meanwhile, the district’s 20 elementary schools reported 384 more students this year compared to last year.
