Water plants every other day, CVWD says
Crescenta Valley Water District customers have been asked to water their lawns and plants every other day following Gov. Jerry Brown’s call to California residents to reduce water consumption by 20% in the wake of a statewide drought warning.
Officials announced the decision Friday in a press release following a board of directors meeting earlier in the week. The Board of Directors had considered a proposal to implement water conservation measures last year, but decided against it at that time.
Officials are also requesting customers to water before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
The Crescenta Valley Water District board decided to limit watering during the week following a request by the Foothill Municipal Water District, which provides the Crescenta Valley with water.
The Crescenta Valley district covers parts of Glendale, La Crescenta, Montrose and La Cañada Flintridge.
Crescenta Valley customers have reduced their historical consumption by more than 20% since 2010, according to the statement.
Crescenta Valley Water District’s announcement comes after Glendale Water & Power officials recommended customers limit irrigation to three times a week. Glendale Water & Power also made a variety of other suggestions, such as limiting showering to five minutes, but like Crescenta Valley, the utility does not plan to order mandatory conservation.
The last time Glendale implemented a mandatory conservation policy was in 2009.
