Burbank Police and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office have blocked off the road to the Stough Canyon Nature Center to further investigate the human remains that were discovered off the road past the main gate leading to the center on Tuesday afternoon. Shortly before 1:30 p.m., a city worker discovered what appeared to be human remains and called the police, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.
Six people pulled papers this week to replace outgoing City Council member Frank Quintero in Glendale’s special election on June 3. Rick Barnes, newcomer Luis Alberto Ramos, Mike Mohill, Chahe Keuroghelian, Vartan Gharpetian and Paula Devine were issued nomination papers on Monday, when the process officially started.
The Colony Theatre in Burbank said a fundraising push that began around Thanksgiving snowballed into about $260,000 -- more than five times what initially was expected and enough to put the theater on secure fiscal footing 16 months after it had announced it was on the verge of closing, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Flu season is in full swing: local physicians say they’re seeing an increase in patients with flu symptoms as the season for the virus approaches its peak in February and March.
