Power was restored to the remaining 900 Glendale Water & Power customers at about midnight after an outage that occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. and affected a total of about 5,000 customers in the north Glendale, La Crescenta and Sparr Heights areas, officials said.

Power was restored so some neighborhoods around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday night, but just after 11 p.m., Glendale Water & Power reported 900 customers were still without power.

Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said power should be fully restored by about midnight.

The cause was most likely due to equipment failure at the utility’s Montrose substation, he said.

The area where the outage occured includes Lowell Avenue to La Crescenta Avenue, just north of Foothill Boulevard, Lorenz said.

Crews were working to restore power to all the affected areas, which included replacing the damaged panel and hooking customers up to other substations, he said.

“You’re going to see a Domino effect in certain areas as power comes back on,” Lorenz said.
