Identity, cause of death still pending for man who died after massage

Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials said Monday that the 66-year-old man who died last week during a massage at a Glendale spa still wasn’t identified and the cause of death remains pending.

The man died Thursday while receiving a massage at a newly opened business in the 500 block of East Broadway in Glendale, police said.

He was reportedly lying on his back while getting the massage at about 10:40 p.m. when he suddenly coughed and became unresponsive, Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot said. A spa employee said his eyes were closed during the massage, so she initially thought he was sleeping.

Glendale fire personnel performed CPR and transported him the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said investigators will look into the incident, but “at this point, the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.”
