Two La Crescenta schools placed on lockdown following alleged prank call

Two La Crescenta schools were on lockdown for about 30 minutes Thursday as law enforcement officials investigated what turned out to be a prank call about shots fired.

“The prank call was that there were shots fired at the location,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

But when police were called to the La Crescenta home in the 3200 block of Henrietta Avenue, where the caller reported there were shots fired, a woman was home alone and there were “no problems,” Lorenz said.

The law enforcement activity still spurred Monte Vista and Valley View elementary schools to go on lockdown, starting at about 10 a.m.

Monte Vista Principal Suzanne Risse said the lockdown was lifted at 10:25 a.m. after officials found there was no danger.

Risse said district officials called her and suggested “it might be prudent to go into the lockdown so we did.”

“It’s good for staff to practice,” she added. “We took it as that — as a good practice.”
