I’d like to acknowledge the work of two of my journalism students who did a yeoman job last Monday night by covering the small plane that crashed on Glenwood Road in Glendale.

Agnessa Kasumyan, who has been on Hoover’s High School newspaper The Tornado Times for all four of her high school years, and Harut Kazaryan, who reports for Tornado TV, both went to the crash scene on their own. Harut shot video using his phone and Agnessa interviewed a fire battalion chief. You can see their report at tornado-times.com under “news.”

What makes me most proud of them is that they decided to cover the story without me asking them to. This shows that they are true journalists; they sensed a story was there and went after it.

It is easy to criticize young people, but I am fortunate to work with some of the best kids out there.
