Open auditions for the Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Department’s fall production of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6 in the Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute to one-and-a-half-minute monologue from a modern playwright such as Chekhov, Shaw or Ibsen, but not from “A Doll’s House.” Actors should come to the lobby of the Auditorium on either audition day to sign in. Call-backs, if necessary, will be on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

Cast members must enroll in theater arts workshops in the fall semester. The required courses are one to three units of Theatre Arts 162 - Modern Theatre Workshop, and one unit of a backstage lab for performers.

The play will be staged for eight performances over two weekends beginning Nov. 8 in the Auditorium. Melissa R. Randel will be the director.

The spring production, to be staged in April, 2013, is “Almost Maine,” by John Cariani. Auditions for this production will be held in February, 2013.

Additional information on the theater arts program can be obtained on the website at www.glendale.edu/theatre or by calling 818-240-1000, ext. 5618. The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.

Medical and dental front-office programs offered

Medical and Dental Billing and Coding programs at GCC can lead to an Associate in Science Degree and/or a Certificate of Completion as part of the Medical Office Administration course offerings.

This fall, instructor Sara Ovsepyan will be teaching Medical Office Administration 187, Dental Front Office/Billing and Coding, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:20 to 2:50 p.m. The four-unit course prepares students for work in a dental office with instruction in professional qualifications, compliance with legal and ethical issues, courteous and effective handling of patients, preparation and care of dental records, insurance, financial records and general management of a dental facility. Students will also learn to complete billing and coding procedures for a dental office setting and get hands-on experience with ADA Dental Claim Forms.

A Certificate of Completion can also be earned in Medical Billing and Coding. The four-unit course, MOA 183, can be taken this fall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:10 to 11:15 a.m. It is also taught by Sara Ovsepyan. The class helps students find jobs in hospitals and doctors’ offices by familiarizing them with the tools necessary to start working.

Other Medical Office Administration courses are offered this fall and can be found in the class schedule at www.glendale.edu/schedules. The fall semester begins on Tuesday, Sept. 4. For more information about the medical and dental billing and coding classes, email gccbilling24@yahoo.com.
