Busybodies and historical districts

I think the city council should reject the proposal to impose historical designations against the wishes of property owners (“City weighs ‘historic’ power,” Oct. 19). I do not believe the hobby interest of busybodies in the Glendale Historical Society should usurp the rights of homeowners and shopkeepers to do with their own properties as they see fit.

It is one thing for a historical society to cherish and celebrate the past. It is quite another for it to covet its neighbor’s property and encourage the government to impose its will on the citizenry.
