Manoukian should take aim off gun show

Gun control, or just control? That’s what it’s all about. I agree with Councilman Rafi Manoukian on many issues, but this is not one of them. He and some others on the council believe that closing the gun shows at the Civic Auditorium will reduce exposure of our college students (99% adults who have 2nd Amendment rights) to the terrible use of weapons of mass destruction. On this one, in my view, he is very wrong.

Contrary to the comments of other council members, there is no criminal activity attributable to the legal products sold at the gun show, according to Glendale Police Department officers. I’m not saying there couldn’t be, I’m just saying there is no record of any. Further, these weapons can be obtained in many retail establishments in Glendale.

The Civic Auditorium gun show is attended by thousands of law-abiding, conscientious people who enjoy shooting/hunting activities. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the United States permit us to own guns for whatever legal activity we choose.

California gun laws are among the strictest in the nation and prohibit many of the weapons the media reports on in its attempt to confuse us. Let us not repeat historically catastrophic disasters that have followed the creeping control of guns resulting in the outright control of them (a precursor to confiscation) and not permit the government to control our lives any more than it does.
