Share

In response to Ron Asher’s March 30 letter to the editor, “Glendale to honor Vietnam vets?” I’m pleased to invite Ron and the Glendale community to the inaugural Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, April 13, at 8 a.m., at the Vietnam Memorial on the corner of Honolulu and Ocean View Avenues in the Montrose Shopping Park. Dedicated on Friday, June 14, 1968 while our nation was still at war, it is the oldest municipal Vietnam memorial in the U.S.

The ceremony will be presented by American Legion Post 288 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1614. It will feature the solemn POW/MIA Table, presented by the Drill and Ceremony Team from the Crescenta Valley High School Air Force JROTC Unit 882. The cadets will present the colors, a bagpipe player will participate, Vietnam veterans will be welcomed home by the American Legion and VFW Post commanders, and a Boy Scout bugler will end the ceremony with “Taps.”

There will be limited seating available, so plan to arrive a few minutes before 8 a.m.
