Letter: Smoke-free campus is better overall

Share

Glendale Community College recently became a 100% smoke-free campus. This rule includes eliminating smoking in indoor and outdoor areas across the entire campus. There are no more special smoking areas for smokers. This change is beneficial both for smokers and nonsmokers.

I support the idea of GCC being a smoke-free campus. It is very useful both for smokers and nonsmokers. Freshman high school students start smoking just by seeing the college students as a role model. Most of these students even don’t know the downsides and the consequences that they have to pay later in their lives. Also, a smoke-free campus benefits nonsmoking students. Now the campus is much cleaner and the area has become more enjoyable and comfortable.
