Letter: Missing the salami at Al’s closed deli

Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce President Steve Pierce walks out of the closed Al's Italian American Delicatessen in Montrose on Monday, January 13, 2014. Pierce was checking out the progress of the construction for the restaurant that will be re-occupying the vacancy. Al's had been in place for 60 years until it became too expensive to operate in downtown Montrose.

As a constant customer, I was shocked and saddened to find Al’s Italian American Deli in Montrose closed (“Al’s Deli has served its last Italian sandwich,” Jan. 15). On any given day, I usually could be found strolling into Al’s for my daily savory fix: a small chunk of salami. On what I considered to be truly lucky days, I was awarded a complimentary array of salami ends. I was in seventh heaven!

To Greg and Rosa Tomassian, thanks so much for your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity. You will be greatly missed. Ciao.
