Sports Roundup: Hoover wrestlers compete in Masters Meet

BOYS’ WRESTLING

Hoover in CIF Southern Section Masters Meet: Andrew Shin lost in the first round of a 182-pound match, bounced back in the opening round of the consolation bracket before suffering a consolation-round defeat Friday at Cerritos College.

Shin lost in the first round to Bonita’s Trevor Tinker on a fall 10 seconds from the close of the opening period.

The senior regrouped in the first round of the consolation bracket and pinned Andrew Gomez of Rancho Cucamonga 44 seconds into the first round.

The 182-pound wrestler lost to Dechlan Sparrow of Lompoc by a 12-5 decision in the second round of the consolation bracket.

GIRLS’ WRESTLING

Hoover in CIF Southern Section Masters Meet: Freshman Sarine Mardirosian lost in the first round of the 101-pound weight class in the consolation bracket’s opening round Friday at Roosevelt High.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Grossmont College 7, Glendale Community College 2: Glendale (2-1) dropped a nonconference road match Friday.

The Vaqueros received singles wins from Isabella Chacon, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, and Gabriella Contratto, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-4.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 60, Citrus College 43: Glendale rolled to a Western State Conference East Division home victory Wednesday.

The Vaqueros (19-4, 7-0 in the division) received 14 points and 14 rebounds from Sylvia Vartazarian and 16 points and five assists from Cheyenne Jankulovski.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Citrus College 73, Glendale Community College 63: Host Glendale came up short in a Western State Conference East Division contest Wednesday.

The Vaqueros (11-14, 4-3 in the division) got 16 points and eight rebounds from Isaac Etter, 14 points and three assists from Steven Hubbell, 14 points from Eric Ting and 10 points and eight rebounds from Tre’j Floyd.
