Falcons cruise past Muir

BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 12, Muir 0 (5 innings): Kyle Pomeroy struck out six and gave up just one hit in three innings, while Cole Currie finished off the Falcons’ abbreviated Pacific League home win on Friday night with two scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts.

Crescenta Valley (17-2, 6-1) had 10 hits to Muir’s one and scored three runs apiece in the first and second innings and six in the third.

Pasadena 6, Glendale 0: The Nitros were no-hit in Friday afternoon’s Pacific League loss.

Glendale also committed four errors in slipping to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in league.

BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale 82, Muir 49: Mike Davis was a winner in the 100 meters in 10.7 seconds and the 200 (21.7) and Chris Canlas won the 800 (2:03.50) and the 3,200 (11:00) to lead the Nitros in Pacific League dual meet on Thursday.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale 101, Muir 28: The Nitros won a Pacific League dual meet on Thursday.

Fabiola Naranjo won the 1,600 meters in 6 minutes 23.40 seconds and the 3,200 in 13:20.30, Shannon Cruz won the 100 high hurdles in 18.7 and the triple jump (34 feet 8 inches) and Sophia Amodia won the 300 low hurdles 47.40 and the long jump (17-3).

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference prelims: Neil Jones was one of eight Vaqueros to make the cutoff for the conference finals at Bakersfield College on Friday with strong performances on Thursday at Santa Monica College.

The Crescenta Valley High graduate won his heats of the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes 4.18 seconds and the 800 in 1:55.49.

Other GCC qualifiers were Robert Weathers in the 100 (11.10) and 200 (22.58), Patrick Donahue in the 100 (11.08), Ramon Robles in the 800 (2:00.11), Sam Winston in the 800 (1:58.60), Adrian Anderson in the 800 (1:59.24), Arthur Papazyan in the 400 hurdles (57.47) and Trey Williams in the 200 (22.50).

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College in Western State Conference prelims: A number of Vaqueros had good enough performances in the Western State Conference prelims on Thursday at Santa Monica College to advance to Friday’s WSC finals at Bakersfield College.

Karen Rosas won her heat in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes 59.65 seconds, Carissa Porter was a double-winner in the 100 (12.13) and the 200 (25.43) and Alyssa Selve doubled in her heat of the 1,500 (4:57.73) and the 800 (2:21.92).

Other GCC qualifiers were Kristine Kaneichi in the 1,500 (5:04.70), Angie Martinez in the 1,500 (4:57.75) and 800 (2:25.87), Laura Pluemer in the 1,500 (4:58.71) and 800 (2:21.60), Jessica Wences in the 1,500 (5:12.49) and Jennifer Dowty in the 400 (58.82).

Four athletes also qualified for the Southern California Championships at Mount San Antonio College in the 10K.

Rosas was first in 38:55.79, followed by Diana Sanchez in second (39:11.28) and Cecilia Nicholas (40:26.44) and Vivian Ochoa (49:36.25) in fourth and fifth, respectively.
