Falcons sweep Apaches on hardwood

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 57, Arcadia 45: Crescenta Valley overcame its first-quarter shooting struggles to earn a Pacific League win Friday night against rival Arcadia. The Falcons trailed, 13-6, after the first quarter before regrouping to build a 27-22 halftime advantage.

“We came out so excited with all of the fans cheering and the guys were overly excited,” said Crescenta Valley Coach Shawn Zargarian, who received 18 points and 12 rebounds from Christian Misi to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 16-4, 5-2 in league. “We tended to rush some shots early and then we settled down in the second quarter.

“We felt like it had been a long time since we won a game and we wanted to get back on track.”

Dylan Kilgour finished with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and David Dragovich added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Cole Currie contributed nine points and five assists for the Falcons.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 54, Arcadia 42: The Falcons got out to a fast start at home Friday, burying the Apaches under a 12-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. Crescenta Valley finished strong, too, as it maintained a healthy 16-point lead for most of the fourth quarter.

“We had a good week of practice and we got out to a fast start,” CV Coach Jason Perez said. “We have been getting off to a slow start in all our games. We have been losing all our games in the first quarter and we’ve had to play from behind.”

Ella Stepanian scored a team-high 22 points for the Falcons (11-8, 3-4 in Pacific League). CV also got 11 points from Samira Seraji added 11 and nine from Catherine Davis.

“We played our best game of the year tonight,” Perez said. “We might be getting back on track.”

Pasadena Poly 80, Flintridge Prep 27: The Rebels were turned away by Poly’s Michelle Miller, who scored 52 points and had 10 rebounds, in a Prep League game at Prep Friday.

Katherine Bogaard led Prep with a team-high 11 points. Maya Okamoto added seven points for the Rebels (5-12, 1-5 in league).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 5, Webb 1: The Rebels poured on four goals in the second half Friday to improve to 3-1 in the Prep League with a win over Webb. Manny Perez and Henry Herzog both scored two goals in the win for Prep and Zayd Al-Marayati was responsible for the Rebels’ other goal.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 1, Chadwick 0: Samantha Davies scored in the 16th minute off a pass from Kaelin King to net the host Rebels a Prep League win Friday at the Glendale Sports Complex. Flintridge Prep (10-2-1, 4-1 in league) got seven saves from goalkeeper Casey Cousineau, who recorded her ninth shutout of the season.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Flintridge Prep 14, Westridge 11: Suzanna Tan registered seven goals and Kate Woolley added five on Friday to lead host Flintridge Prep in a Prep League match. The Rebels (4-6, 2-4 in league) received a pair of goals from Katrina Boyd.

Harvard-Westlake 22, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 6: Hannah Walleck tallied four goals Friday for the visiting Tologs in a Mission League match. Flintridge Sacred Heart (2-7, 1-3 in league) got two goals from Cheri McGlynn.
