Flintridge Prep in Malibu Tournament: For the second weekend in a row, the Rebels had a strong showing in tournament play. Flintridge Prep wrapped up fifth place in the 12-team tournament at Malibu High with victories over Notre Dame, 8-5, and Beverly Hills, 9-7, Saturday.

Flintridge Prep Coach Dan Hare said it’s the Rebels’, who are currently ranked fifth in CIF Southern Section Division V, finest showing at the Malibu Tournament in three years.

Ethan Vandeventer had a strong day in the pool for Prep, as he scored six goals and added two assists and eight steals through two matches. He had four goals and three steals in the fifth-place match against Beverly Hills, which is ranked eighth in Division IV, while the Rebels also had two scores from Diego Delgado in the game.

“I am sure to the fans it seems liked we shocked a lot of people, but for us we’re just showing what we can to do,” said Vandeventer of Prep’s performances the past two weeks, as it also took sixth in the Los Altos Tournament last week.

Delgado finished with five goals on the day with three more coming against Notre Dame. Brian Khin was a wall in cage for Prep, as he blocked 12 shots through three quarters in goal in the tournament finale and had 19 in all Saturday.

Prep (6-4) also defeated Carpinteria, 8-5, before falling to host Malibu, 11-5, earlier in tournament play.
