SPORTS ROUNDUP: Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy track and field opens up with impressive victory

TRACK AND FIELD

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 103, Chaminade 23: The Tologs began their season Thursday with a Mission League win at St. Francis High.

Flintridge Sacred Heart received first-place efforts from Daelyn Moon in the 400-meter race in 1 minute 2.22 seconds, Noëlle Niederhaus in the 1,600 (5:47.9), Kayla Mills in the 100 (13.6) and Alex Donner in the shot put (26 feet 5 inches). Moon worked with Hailey James, Claire Kostelnik and Kayla Montgomery to win the 4x100 relay in 52.13.

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis 201, Crescenta Valley 222: The Golden Knights (1-1) posted a nonleague victory Thursday at Brookside Golf Course No. 1.

Paul Park of Crescenta Valley (1-1) earned medalist honors with a one-under-par 35. St Francis received a 37 from Johnny Brandt and a 38 from Michael Finney.

La Cañada 196, St. Francis 201: Vince De Pinto fired a two-over-par 37 on Tuesday for the Golden Knights in a season-opening nonleague match at La Cañada Country Club. Eric Suarez had a 39 for St. Francis, which received a 40 from Johnny Brandt.

Crescenta Valley 220, Pasadena 300: The Falcons won their nonleague match Tuesday at Brookside Golf Course No. 1.

Geo Labellarte led CV with a six-over-par 42, while Cody Renfro added a 45.

BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 10, Mark Keppel 4: Jonny Psaltis drove in four runs, had three hits and twirled four innings in which he allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts to propel the Falcons to their first win on Wednesday at Stengel Field in a second-round game of the Dick’s Sports Goods Preseason Tournament. Bryan Wang added a double and a triple.

Crescenta Valley (1-1) opened its season Saturday in the tournament with a 6-3 loss to La Cañada. Less than 24 hours after scoring a game-high 28 points in a CIF Southern Section Division I-A quarterfinal basketball win, Cole Currie got the start and threw three innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits and striking out four .

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Temple City 3, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights began their season Monday with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 nonleague home loss.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Glendale Community College 7, Ventura College 2: The host Vaqueros picked up a Western State Conference victory Tuesday, Glendale (6-3, 1-1 in conference) got singles wins from Allie Amor (6-2, 6-0), Ashley Sumudio (3-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-5), Amanda Dring (6-4, 6-2), Sydney Farzadkish (6-4, 6-0) and Fnu Nerrissa (6-2, 6-2). Earning doubles wins for the Vaqueros were Sofia Tavitian and Amor 9-8(7-3) and Sumudio and Nerrissa (8-4).

MEN’S TENNIS

Ventura College 8, Glendale Community College 1: Phillip Lam posted a 6-4, 6-2 singles win for the visiting Vaqueros on Tuesday in a Western State Conference match. Glendale dropped to 4-3, 1-1 in conference.
