SPORTS ROUNDUP: Hoover High softball sweeps doubleheader

Hoover 19, 10, Los Angeles International 2, 0: The Tornadoes swept a double-header with the Bulldogs at home Saturday. Hoover opened with a 19-2 win and followed that with a 10-0 five-inning shutout victory earned by Alissa Barcena, who struck out seven and allowed just three base runners on two hits and a walk in the finale.

Jessica Rivera, Jenesy Gonzalez and Kelly Crockett each had multi-hit performances in the opener. Rivera was three for four with two runs batted in, while Gonzalez was three for four with a double and four RBI and Crockett was two for three with four RBI and a triple.

Kaitlyn Williams hit a two-run homer in the second game, a contest in which Hoover (5-5) scored seven runs in the first inning. Breana Aguilera also had a RBI triple in the win.

Chadwick 13, Flintridge Prep 12 (eight innings): Ashley Kim kept the Rebels in the hunt in Saturday’s Prep League game at Flintridge Prep. She went four for five with a pair of home runs, doubles, seven runs batted in and four scored.

Flintridge Prep battled back from a 12-10 deficit, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seven to send the game to an extra inning. It was the second extra-inning loss the Rebels, who committed seven errors, suffered this week after a 6-5 walk-off loss to Westridge to Wednesday.

Jenna Galper also doubled and drove in a run for Prep (1-10, 0-5 in league), which racked up 11 hits in the game and received RBI from Kyla Bradley and Alex Tutwiler.
