SPORTS ROUNDUP: Glendale Community College baseball bests Bakersfield again

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 6, Bakersfield 3: Leading by just a run, 4-3, heading into the final inning, the Vaqueros scored two more runs in the top of the ninth of Thursday’s Western State Conference South Division game at Bakersfield.

Edgar Montes went three for four for Glendale, which also received a four-run-batted-in game from Sergio Plasencia, whose lone hit came on a double. Justin Jones drove in a pair of runs on a one-for-three day and Mark Strazzeri went two for two.

Gary Acuna got the start for the Vaqueros and threw 5 2/3 innings of five-hit, two-run ball and struck out four. Jason Kim picked up his first save of the year in the win.

GCC improved to 23-9, 17-3 in conference and widened its lead in its division over second-place Bakersfield (24-10, 16-6).

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Glendale 7, Westridge 2: Lymayre Aguilar finished with three goals Thursday and goalkeeper Jenjna Villabroza made seven saves to lead the visiting Nitros to a Prep League win. Glendale improved to 5-7, 3-3 in league.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Flintridge Prep 14, Webb 4: The Rebels got sweeps from Albert Lee, 6-0, 6-0 6-0, in singles and Koby Hayashi and Will Dixon in doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1. Flintridge Prep improved to 2-2 in the Prep League.

Arcadia 14, Glendale 4: The Nitros got a pair of victories from Arin Meserkhani (6-2, 6-1) and Nawas Tokatly and Meher Krikor (6-4, 6-2) in a Pacific League loss at home Thursday. Glendale fell to 4-9, 2-8 in league.

Loyola 15, St. Francis 3: The Golden Knights got two wins from Alex Kavakian in a Mission League road loss Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 6, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 5: The Tologs were dealt a walk-off loss in a Mission League road game Thursday. Sacred Heart fell to 8-8-2, 1-3 in league.

Chadwick 9, Flintridge Prep 6: Marisa Wang had two hits and stole three bases Thursday for the host Rebels in a Prep League contest. Flintridge Prep dipped to 1-12, 0-7 in league.

BOYS’ GOLF

Loyola 185, St. Francis 201: Vince De Pinto fired a one-over-par 37 on Thursday in a Mission League match at Brookside Golf Course No. 2. Jack Tenney finished with a 38 for St. Francis (7-5, 6-4 in league).
