SPORTS ROUNDUP: Flintridge Prep’s Alan Yoho wins Small School’s race at Clovis Invitational

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep, Crescenta Valley and St. Francis in Clovis Invitational: Alan Yoho of Flintridge Prep clocked a winning time of 15 minutes 23 seconds Saturday in the Small School’s race at Woodward Park in Fresno. The Rebels finished second in the 3.1-mile race, receiving a third-place effort from Jack Van Scoter (15:47).

“We are putting it all together and we are excited about where we are right now,” Flintridge Prep Coach Ingrid Herskind said. “Alan just ran a great race and we came into it looking to get him under 15:30.”

The Rebels registered 151 points and had a team time of 1:22.01.

Crescenta Valley finished 20th with 424 points in the Championship Race with a team time of 1:22.30. Matt Manalo clocked 15:45 to place 23rd for the Falcons.

St. Francis took 26th in the Medium School’s Race with 701 points and a team time of 1:30.07. The Golden Knights received a 93rd-place effort from Chris Rodriguez (17:08).

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep and Crescenta Valley in Clovis Invitational: Flintridge Prep got a third-place performance from Sarah Yoho in 18 minutes 42 seconds to help the Rebels place fifth with 184 points Saturday in the Small School’s race at Woodward Park in Fresno. Natalie O’Brien took 12th (19:08) in the 3.1-mile race for the Rebels, who had a team-time of 1:38.47.

In the Championship Race, Crescenta Valley notched a 20-place finish with 482 points and a team time of 1:40.08. Megan Melnyk of Crescenta Valley had a mark of 18:43 to take 23rd.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley in Oxnard Tournament: The Falcons topped Pasadena Poly, 9-1, in the consolation final Saturday at Oxnard High. Alexander Trimis scored three goals for Crescenta Valley (11-8). Ryan Moguel and Brandon Fernandez had two goals apiece for the falcons, who dropped a 10-2 decision to Malibu earlier. On Friday, Crescenta Valley posted a pair of tournament wins. It opened with a 14-8 victory against Lompoc Cabrillo before finishing with a 13-6 win against Oxnard.

MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Glendale Community College in Vanguard University Invitational: The Vaqueros placed fourth with 114 points Saturday at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.

Glendale’s Enrique Ramirez clocked 25 minutes 18 seconds to finish second in the 8K race. Steban Aviles of Glendale took 22nd (26.10). Daniel Marin was 26th (26.20) for the Vaqueros, followed by teammates Jorge Serrano (32nd, 26:26) and Jorge Mendoza (42nd, 26:43).

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Glendale Community College in Vanguard University Invitational: Glendale finished with 210 points for sixth place in Saturday’s 5K race at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.

The Vaqueros were led by Elizabeth Nelson, who took 27th in 18 minutes 51 seconds. Glendale also got a 42nd-place effort from Glindyll Mancia (19:18), followed by teammates Teresa Villafuerte (51st, 19:39), Kelly Castillo (54th, 19:42) and Caitlyn Selve (60th, 19:46).
