Crescenta Valley 15, Burroughs 0: Visiting Crescenta Valley (9-3) began defense of its Pacific League championship Wednesday with an impressive shutout victory.

Elissa Arnold finished with seven goals for the Falcons, who got five from Audrey Taylor.

Alemany 2, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: The Tologs dropped their Mission League opener on the road Wednesday.

FSHA (6-3-1) gave up a pair of second-half goals.

San Marino 4, Crescenta Valley 0: The Falcons lost a nonleague match Wednesday to fall to 1-5.

Alverno 6, Holy Family 0: The host Gaels (0-3) fell Wednesday in a Horizon League opener at Rio de L.A. Park. Holy Family received seven first-half saves from goalkeeper Hanna Marin and eight saves from reserve goalkeeper Jackie Barela in the second half.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 59, West L.A. College 42: The Vaqueros tipped off Western State Conference South Division action Wednesday with a victory. Glendale (13-2) received 18 points and 15 rebounds from Emmett Duvall and 11 points and 12 rebounds from Sammy Darling. Jalen Etienne and Emerson Castaneda contributed 10 points apiece for the Vaqueros.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 64, West L.A. College 47: Glendale (10-7) began Western State Conference South Division play Wednesday with a win.
