Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley boys’ basketball tops archrival Arcadia

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 64, Arcadia 54: Just one game out of first place in the Pacific League at the midway point, the Falcons appear to have things in order.

A balanced scoring attack paved the way Friday for the Falcons, who received 15 points and 11 rebounds from Eric Patten and 12 points and four assists from Berj Krikorian to register a league home victory against their big rival in front of a packed house.

“We are 5-2 and right in the thick of things,” said Crescenta Valley Coach Shawn Zargarian, who got nine points, seven rebounds and three assists from Chris Bouchard and 10 points and five rebounds from Eric Bae. “We are one game out and that’s where we want to be.

“We are getting a lot of minutes and production from the entire team.”

Patten had nine third-quarter points for the Falcons, who improved to 12-8 and are 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Crescenta Valley held a 31-21 halftime advantage after building a 12-5 lead after the first quarter.

The Falcons will next compete in a league road contest against Glendale on Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep 61, Chadwick 60 (double overtime): Andrew Tsangeos made a three-pointer as time expired to lift the host Rebels in a Prep League contest. Tsangeos finished with a game-high 30 points to help the Rebels improve to 7-11, 3-0 in league. Robert Cartwright contributed 15 points for Flintridge Prep.

St. Francis 68, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 56: The host Golden Knights received 15 points apiece from Evan Crawford and Kyle Leufroy to earn a Mission League victory Friday. St. Francis (13-6, 2-3 in league) got 10 points from Noah Willerford, nine from John Carroll and eight from Michael Allen.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 1, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: On the strength of a Nicole Linden score off a Nia Harris assist, the Tologs tied in their Mission League game Friday at Occidental College.

With the tie, Sacred Heart is now 8-4-2 and 1-2-1 in league. Tologs goalkeeper Dani Garcia had four saves.

Alverno 4, Holy Family 0: Goalkeeper Hannah Marin finished with 10 saves Friday for the Gaels in a Horizon League match at the Glendale Sports Complex. Holy Family dropped to 0-6, 0-4 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 6, St. Francis 1: Ricky Francia opened the scoring in the 20th minute for the Golden Knights, but they relinquished six consecutive goals, five in the second half, during Friday’s Mission League loss on Friedman Field.

St. Francis is now 4-6-3, 1-3-1 in league.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 8, Pioneer Valley 1: Maddy Dulcich and Mary Farley had three goals apiece to lead the Tologs (9-10) on Friday in a pool-play match of the Oxnard Tournament at Oxnard High. Flintridge Sacred Heart then suffered a 3-2 sudden-death overtime defeat against Oxnard. Dulcich and Devin Albert each scored a goal for the Tologs.
