Sports Roundup: St. Francis golf opens Mission League with three-stroke win

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis 196, Harvard-Westlake 199: Johnny Brandt fired an even-par 36 on Wednesday to lead the host Golden Knights (2-0) in a Mission League opener at Oakmont Country Club. Michael Mozilo and Stian Lintvedt had 39’s for St. Francis.

Flintridge Prep 230, Azusa 258: Jonah Sacks had an eight-over-par 42 on Wednesday for the visiting Rebels (3-0) in a nonleague match at Azusa Greens Golf Course.

SOFTBALL

Glendale 7, Sylmar 5: Tiffany Bartamian had two hits, including a triple, and three runs batted in as the Nitros won at home Wednesday.

With their fourth straight win, Glendale is now 4-1.

BASEBALL

Venice 4, Glendale 3: The Nitros fell to 2-3 on Wednesday with all three losses coming by one run. Justin French, Thad Wilson and Eric Winner had two hits each.

Cleveland 3, Hoover 1: The Tornadoes (2-2) fell Wednesday in a Southern California Invitational road contest. Hoover got two hits apiece from Pierce Velazquez, Kenny Garcia and Ethan Turpin.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 13, St. Francis 5: The visiting Golden Knights fell in a Mission League opener Wednesday at L.A. Valley College. Mostafa El-Harazi won a pair of sets (7-5, 6-4) for St. Francis, which dropped to 5-1.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 5, Bakersfield College 0: Dylan Trimarchi drove in two runs Tuesday to spark the visiting Vaqueros in a Western State Conference South Division contest. Glendale improved to 8-7, 3-1 in the division.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Antelope Valley College 4, Glendale Community College 3: Ari Rea drove in a pair of runs Thursday for the visiting Vaqueros in a Western State Conference Blue Division doubleheader. Jocelyn Zavala had two hits for Glendale (7-9, 1-2 in the division). Glendale suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first contest.
