Sports Roundup: Glendale Community College women track and field pick up win

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College at Western State Conference Inland Meet: The Vaqueros picked up a victory at the meet at Bakersfield College on Friday afternoon, outlasting West Los Angeles, 169-162.

Elizabeth Nelson led the way for Glendale in winning the 1,500-meter (4:54.72) and 3,000-meter runs (11:07.41), while Lizette Gonzalez took the 800 (2:19.93) on the track.

Aisiah Tuiasosopo paced the Vaqueros field squad in picking up a double victory in the discus (37.29 meter) and hammer (39.26 meters), while Nicole Pappelis took the javelin (35.03) and Justice Shank was victorious in the high jump (1.68 meters).

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Glendale Community College at Western State Conference Inland Meet: The Vaqueros finished third with 139 points behind College of the Canyons (186) and West Los Angeles (160) at the meet at Bakersfield College on Friday afternoon.

Decathlete Quaid Vuncannon was the school’s lone two-event individual winner as he claimed the hammer (32 meters) and the discus (45.49), while teammate Tanner Mays captured the javelin (52.25).

In track events, Edwardo Vasquez captured the 1,500-meter run (4:03.84) and the 400-meter relay team of Rick Goulsby, Marcus Streeter, Jonathan Smith and Vuncannon won in 42.83.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Crescenta Valley 3, Claremont 2: The visiting Falcons posted a 25-17, 25-13, 24-26, 23-25, 15-12 Pacific League victory Friday.

Crescenta Valley improved to 12-0, 2-0 in league.

Burroughs 3, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes fell in a Pacific League home match on Friday afternoon 25-5, 25-7, 25-11.

Hoover dropped to 1-7-1 overall and 0-5 in league.
