Roundup: Crescenta Valley, Hoover softball open league with wins

SOFTBALL

Crescenta Valley 10, Pasadena 0 (five innings): The Falcons began Pacific League play Tuesday with an easy win over Pasadena on the road, buoyed by a big day from Hailey Cookson, who had three doubles, two runs and three runs batted in.

Taylor Hill was four for four with a run and RBI, while Baylee Renfro (two hits, two RBI, run) and Chloe Fairbrother (two hits, run) also had good outings.

Olivia Thayer got the win in the circle, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out four.

Hoover 26, Muir 0 (five innings): The Tornadoes remained undefeated, improving to 5-0 with a Pacific League-opening win on Tuesday at home.

Anjel Bonilla had a huge day, with three hits, five runs batted in, three runs and three stolen bases.

Deana Cruz had four hits, four runs and two RBI. Ysenia Rodriguez had three hits, three runs and three RBI. Seran Krikorian had two hits, three RBI and two runs and Alex Mendoza had two hits, three RBI and three runs.

Evie Unger threw the shutout, allowing two hits and four walks, while striking out seven.

BOYS’ GOLF

Crescenta Valley 207, Burbank 253: The Falcons received three-over-par 39s from Paul Park and Brandon Cho on Tuesday in a nonleague match at Brookside Golf Course No. 1 in Pasadena. Cody Renfro added a 41 for Crescenta Valley (6-2).
