A local couple who have taken active roles in support of Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services will be in the spotlight next month when the organization gives them a prestigious award during an event being held at the L.A. Zoo.

Michael Galper and Gayle Penrod Galper will be feted for their work to better the lives of children and families served by Hathaway-Sycamores. Michael Galper has served on the group’s board of directors for the past decade, including a stint as chairman, from 2013-15.

Gayle Galper, well known around town for her activities with the PTA and Girl Scouts when the couple’s daughter Jenna was a youngster, has been a member of Los Altos Auxiliary — a support arm of Hathaway-Sycamores dedicating to improving lives of boys at its residential campus — since 2012.

The ninth annual Celebrating Children fundraiser on Oct. 7 is a family-friendly event that will allow guests to explore the zoo after hours.

The event, which includes dinner, carousel rides, a silent auction and more, gets underway at 6 p.m. and will run until 10 p.m. The public is invited to attend; tickets can be purchased by visiting www.celebratingchildrenevent.com or contacting Andi Sica at (323) 257-9600, Ext. 7220, or via email: asica@hscfs.org.
