La Cañada Organizations: High school juniors sought for Miss LCF court

Young women who are residents of La Cañada Flintridge and are in their junior year of high school are invited to vie for the title of 2013 Miss La Cañada Flintridge. The annual contest is sponsored by the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association and the La Cañada Junior Women’s Club.

The court includes five members. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship and each of her court members will receive a $250 scholarship from the local chamber.

Applicants will be judged on poise, personality, communication skills, community service, academic and special achievements, and a personal interview.

Applications can be found at www.lacanadaflintridge.com and must be returned to the chamber office, 4529 Angeles Crest Highway, Suite 102, by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22. There is a $50 application fee. For more information about the contest, email misslcf@lcjwc.org.


Judge will speak to Kiwanians

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Janice Croft will be the featured speaker at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, when the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada hosts Special Guest Day. The club meets in Fellowship Hall at Lutheran Church in the Foothills, 1700 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada.

Residents and business people from around the Foothills are invited to attend. A continental breakfast will be served and a video narrated by members will describe the club’s youth and community service programs.

Croft will speak on the topic, “Who We Are,” detailing the group’s membership, aims and importance to the community and beyond.

Blogger will speak to tea party group

The La Cañada Patriots and Pasadena TeaPAC are hosting a tea party event to take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at a private home at 4700 Palm Drive, La Cañada. The featured speaker is conservative blogger Bill Whittle.
