Ride for the Y raises $9,000

Thirty people pedaled stationary bikes in the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA’s parking lot from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday to raise funds during the third annual Ride for the Y event.

Each team of cyclists donated a minimum of $200 to participate; some $9,000 was raised by the end of the evening, according to Craig Strazzeri, director of communications for the local Y.

Five cycling instructors took turns leading the four-hour ride-a-thon, Strazzeri said. The event also included raffle prizes, music provided by a DJ, and a demonstration of Zumba, a fitness program that incorporates Latin rhythms and dance moves.

“It’s very exciting to see how this fundraising event has grown each year and we have received such positive feedback from the participants and volunteers,” said Rosanne Malogolowkin, executive director of the CC-YMCA. “We can’t wait for the 2014 Ride for the Y.”
