The La Cañada Flintridge City Council joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the city of Pasadena in creating bike lanes along Oak Grove Drive north of Foothill Boulevard. The total cost of the project was $4,000.

Forty Years Ago

Jay Johnson of the Alta Canyada area was preparing to sail his 50-foot catamaran “Glass Slipper” in the 1970 Trans-Pacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu. His crew included his sons, Ken and Scott, and his brother-in-law Frank Prott, also of La Cañada. Johnson won the 2,500-mile race on his first try in 1966.

Fifty Years Ago

A radome was installed on the mesa above the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada to assist with research. The 60-acre parcel would also house a building and three radio towers. Scientists explained that the radome, 30 feet in diameter, would be used to check on instruments that had been sent into outer space.
