Kiwanis-AM to learn about jazz

The La Cañada Kiwanis-AM Club, which meets at 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays, will be given a presentation of jazz and a live performance from Terry Harrington, an outstanding saxophone and clarinet player, on Aug. 25.

On Sept. 1, Tim Peters, the executive director of Door of Hope, will speak about his organization’s work on behalf of homeless families.

The club meets in the parish hall at Lutheran Church in the Foothills, 1700 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. Guests are welcome. To learn more about Kiwanis-AM, call President Martha Burns at (818) 952-5934.

Jr. League hosts potential members

Women interested in joining the Junior League of Pasadena are invited to attend one of two upcoming open houses, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 16 at the league’s headquarters, 149 S. Madison Ave., Pasadena. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (626) 796-0244 or via e-mail to jlpi@earthlink.net.

The league is celebrating its 85th year serving the community. Members also receive training in leadership and advocacy skills, management, marketing and communication skills.
