Beginning Bridge Class — Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 7, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge offers Beginning Bridge to adults and seniors. Taught by a seasoned bridge player, Beginning Bridge offers an opportunity to those who are interested in joining a bridge group but who may not have the skills or confidence to do so. Jump Rope Classes — Wednesdays Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29; 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Hosted by Foothill Force Jump Rope Team for all girls and boys in first through 12th grade, and adults of any age. Music appreciation classes — Tuesdays, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 7- Dec. 14. Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College, will be holding off campus music appreciation classes for adults. This ongoing series is for musicians as well as non-musicians. Stern will present music examples with cultural history to increase the listener’s understanding of the evolution of music. Secrets of Color and Style — Sept. 15, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Discover the new evidence that links personality, coloring, bone structure, and energy intensity to the correct clothing colors and styles. Boddy’s Big Backyard Barbecue — Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. Inspired by the legendary parties that Descanso owner E. Manchester Boddy hosted in the 1930s and ‘40s, the Gardens’ Labor Day shindig starts off with a walk through the California garden at 10 a.m. Gather youngsters for a reading of “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” at 12:30 p.m. Music provided by the Mobile Homeboys from 1 to 3 p.m. Bring a picnic to the Main Lawn or purchase barbecue from 11:30 to 3 p.m. Admission: $8 for adults; $6 for seniors and students; $3 for children 5 to 12; and free children 4 and younger.

Rummage Sale — Sept. 11, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Household goods, books and clothing will be among the items featured at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station Volunteers Annual Rummage Sale, which takes place in the lower parking lot at the station, 4554 N. Briggs Ave., La Crescenta. Proceeds benefit the station’s programs such as Volunteers on Patrol and Arson Watch, as well as community events.

Wiggle, Waggle, Walk —Sept. 26 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 12th Annual Wiggle, Waggle, Walk will be taking place which will benefit the Pasadena Humane Society. Families, friends, and canines are welcome to participate in either the 3-mile or 1-mile walk around the Rose Bowl. Participants are requested to fundraise on behalf of the animals in the care of Pasadena Humane Society. Every $25 that is raised helps care for a domestic animal at the shelter for one day. China Modern: Designing Popular Culture 1910-1970 — Through Feb. 6. Explore how very different political and social views have been embedded in day to day products, advertising, and graphic design in China. The Pacific Asia Museum is located at 46 N. Los Robles Ave. Pasadena. Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for students and seniors and free for ages 11 and under. Architectural Tour of Caltech — Sept. 23, Oct. 28, Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m. The Caltech Women’s Club will be offering architectural tours of the campus. Benefit Concert for Union Station — Oct. 2, Doors open at 5 p.m., concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Music of Bob Mintzer and the USC Big Band with special guest performers. The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and wine, followed by the concert. At the conclusion of the performance there will be dessert and coffee with the artists. The concert will benefit Union Station Homeless Services, assisting homeless men, women, and children. Menagerie; The Art of Animals — Through Jan. 2. Forest Lawn Museum features an exhibit of artwork from a variety of artists, both human and non-human. The exhibit features paintings and drawings, as well as bronze, synthetic and paper sculpture. The museum is located at 1712 S. Glendale Ave, Glendale. Admission is free. Foothill Artists League Annual Exhibition — Oct. 3, 1 p.m. to -5 p.m. Lanterman House will be holding an open house featuring art, music, history and refreshments. Local artists’ work will be featured including plein air and studio oil paintings by the Foothill Artists League. Free document shredding event — Sept. 8, 5-7 p.m. The joint sponsors of the 10th annual Foothills Community Expo will bring back a popular service to the community. A mobile shredding truck will be on hand to shred no longer needed documents, up to seven boxes per attendee, to be shredded while residents watch. Memorial Service — Sept. 11, 9 a.m. A memorial service will be held to honor more than 3,000 victims whose lives were taken at the terror attacks at the World Trade Center. The event is sponsored and conducted by the members of the Young Republicans of La Cañada Flintridge. The event will include memorial speeches by local schools and public officials as well as an invocation by the Rev. Gary Dennis of the La Cañada Presbyterian Church. La Cañada High School Class of 1970 — Oct. 8-9. A cocktail party will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Pasadena Hilton; the 40-year reunion dinner is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 9, also at the Pasadena Hilton, 168 S. Los Robles.
