Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel stationed in La Cañada Flintridge demonstrated a new compressed air foam unit that had been installed on one of the local fire engines. The foam, made of a very thick detergent mixed with water, would be used to blanket vegetation in the path of a brush fire to prevent it from igniting.

Twenty Years Ago

An estimated 1,600 area residents turned out for a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the completion of a 3,500-square-foot addition to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station on Briggs Avenue. The project included a new community room.

Thirty Years Ago

The La Cañada Flintridge City Council gave its approval to some 154 western La Cañada households to hook up to a new sewer system in the Crescenta Valley County Water District.

Forty Years Ago

Two pre-teen La Cañada boys and a local woman accompanying them were found safe in the Angeles National Forest by Montrose Search and Rescue team members. The trio were located six hours after they left Switzers Camp on what was supposed to be a brief hike.

A Hook Tree Road resident complained to the local sheriff’s station that someone entered her garage and deflated all four tires on her 1955 station wagon.
