U.S. Forest Service officials and La Cañada civic leaders gathered on Angeles Crest Highway just north of the city boundary to dedicate 64 miles of the road as “Forest Service Angeles Crest Scenic Byway.”

Winds measuring as high as 99 miles per hour ripped through La Cañada Flintridge, leaving behind uprooted trees, shredded signs and downed power lines. La Cañada Flintridge Country Club and Descanso Gardens reported heavy damage to their properties.

The La Cañada school board voted 4-1 to allow LCHS senior to have off-campus lunch privileges, on a trial basis, beginning in January 1971 on two designated days per week. To qualify, students had to have permission from their parents and the school principal.
