The La Cañada Community Scholarship Foundation has announced that scholarship applications for the 2011-2012 academic year are ready and can be picked up at various locations throughout La Cañada. All required school and financial documentation and reference reports must be received by the foundation by Friday, April 8. Incomplete applications will not be considered

Founded in 1964, the foundation last year gave $39,000 in scholarships to 19 new and renewing recipients, with awards ranging from $500 to $2,000. The organization also gave $2,000 in recognition awards to faculty-selected outstanding seniors. Over the years, nearly 800 students have benefited from the organization’s endeavors.

Basic criteria for the scholarships include primary residence in La Cañada since Jan. 1, 2009, a 3.0 grade point average and demonstrated financial need. Wendy Wyatt, president of CSF, encourages any high-school senior or college student from La Canada with any need for financial assistance to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships will be granted not only on the basis of academic achievement, but also personal references, community service, personal characteristics and the applicant’s essay. Scholarships are awarded for one year, but may be renewed for each year of college or for a second year of trade or technical school. For more details, see CSF’s website at www.csflacanada.com.

Scholarship applications can be downloaded from CSF’s website or picked up at the college counseling offices of La Cañada High School, Flintridge Preparatory School, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Hillside School and Learning Center, and St. Francis High School.

Award recipients will be notified in May and awards will be mailed to scholarship recipients in August.
