Pieroni announces City Council bid

Leonard Pieroni III announced this week he is launching his campaign for one of three seats that will be open on the La Cañada Flintridge City Council in the March election.

Pieroni, currently a member of the Public Works Commission, grew up in this city, where he attended Paradise Canyon Elementary and Foothill Intermediate School before graduating from La Cañada High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is currently a project manager at WorleyParsons, an international engineering firm with offices in Monrovia. He and his wife, Brenda, have been raising their family here since 1995.

“I love our community. When Brenda and I had an opportunity to return to my home town and raise our family, we were very excited. The people, schools and environment make the La Cañada community a very special place that we appreciate being a part of,” Pieroni said in a news release announcing his candidacy.

In addition to his work on the commission, Pieroni is also active in Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Support group.

“After serving as a city commissioner and parent volunteer, I want to do more to maintain its unique qualities. As an engineer I look for functional, common-sense solutions. If given the opportunity, I would use this expertise to keep our town so viable,” Pieroni said.

He said his campaign has received the support of all five members of the current City Council. Two council members whose seats are expiring next spring, Laura Olhasso and Don Voss, have said they will not seek reelection.

“Leonard is a guy who understands our city’s fiscal and management issues and our small town charms,” stated Voss. “He is perfectly situated to help lead our community in a continued positive direction. I am excited and pleased that when I step down in March our city will have excellent leadership.”

The Pieronis’ daughter Allison is a junior at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and their son Lenny is a freshman at St. Francis High School.

Pieroni is the second to announce his intent to run for a City Council position. Terry Walker, a member of the Planning Commission, announced her campaign in September.
