Grandparents lunch with students at LCE

Share

Everyone was smiling at La Cañada Elementary School Friday as hundreds of grandparents came to have lunch with their grandchildren. They wore sunglasses and hats, toting blankets, folding chairs, picnic baskets, lunches and cameras.

LCE’s quad area looked like a park, with everyone having their picnics.

The lunches ranged from Burger King, In N’ Out, Quizno’s to peanut butter sandwiches and fruit, whatever was the favorite of the grandchildren.

Some traveled from out of state for the special event, like first grader Scotty Platisa’s grandfather, who flew in from Idaho. The limited parking also did not deter them, as some walked several blocks.

Many grandparents had more than one lunch, having more than one grandchild at LCE. Michael and Lillian Singelyn, from Newport Beach, had three lunches, having a grandchild in different grades, each with a different lunch time.
