LC Gladiators Dispurse Boyle Heights Wolfpack

The La Cañada Gladiators and the Boyle Heights Wolfpack squared-off last Saturday morning at Roosevelt High in East Los Angeles. Both teams played extremely well. Gladiator quarterback Jack Philo had two touchdowns.

Running backs Laron Brown, Brad Woolfe and Aaron Broddock had great runs behind the blocking of Austin Muller, Brandon Sharman, David Vardanian, Joshua Vasquez, Tanner Costi and Wesley Hovanesian.

Kyle Cheung had a key interception on defense. Linebackers Grant Haxton and Joey Vasquez, who had seven sacks, led the defense. David “Big “D” Vardanian, Alex Harrity, Zach Weinberger, Brendan Hempstead, Nathan Grothe and Jake Charlton, anchored the defensive line and pressured the Glendale quarterback. Bradley Woolfe and Grant Woolf also played well.

Gremlins

The La Cañada Gremlins improved to 5-1 with a 40-0 victory over the Boyle Heights Wolfpack last Saturday at East L.A.’s Roosevelt High.

The Gladiators were led on offense by running back Tarien Owens who scored on runs of 10, 20 and 42 yards. Running back Marcus Hampton scored on a 12-yard run, while Aaren Vaughns scored on runs of two and 17 yards.

Quarterbacks Brendan Doney and Nick Philo also passed and ran well. Philo set up the final score of the first half with an outstanding 21-yard completion to Paul Gandara.

The offensive line of center Matt Singelyn, Clark Bonde, Eric Grothe, Anthony Carter, Logan Dilbeck, Owen Evans, Angel Groves, Eric Vallejo,Guillermo Hernandez, Nick Peters and Alec Bedikian dominated the line of scrimmage.

Linebacker Nolan Mulligan led the defense with two sacks. Marceles Clash and Matt Singelyn also played well.

Nick McMenamin also had a key stop and sack. Linebackers Brendan Caruso and Nick Philo had an outstanding game. Anthony Carter and Helio Higley had several key tackles.

Rounding out the defense were Jason Groves, Victor Chavez, Caruso, Brian Baldocchi, Johnny Louk, Hunter Trowbridge, Michael Greenberg, Owen Evans, Christian Tichon, Blake Shepherd, Kyle Johnson and Keith Law.

Junior Pee Wees

The Junior Pee Wees lost 13-6 to the Boyle Heights Wolfpack on Saturday at Roosevelt High and dropped to 4-2.

Running back Glenn Dudley had the only score of the game for the Gladiators on 25- yard run in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Chris Gilchrist had another big day as did running backs Phil Gandara and Riley Cordova, but penalties took their toll. The Gladiators had one touchdown called back and several long gains negated by penalties.

The Gladiator offensive line of Randel Mancilla, Maik’l Hines, Coleman Monroe, Johnny Cauble, Allen Dearman, Jason Potter and Matt Alegria played well against a tough Wolfpack defense.

Linebacker Joey Dowling and defensive end Daleep Sandhu, who recovered a fumble, led the Gladiators’ defense. Both Mike Singelyn and Bercut Smith had outstanding games. Linebacker Keith Enterante had two sacks.

Rounding out the defense were Matt Trowbridge, Griffin Boss, Matt Bender, Dakota Rodriguez, Wes Berg, Jordan Johannes, Dan Jung, Kevin Cooper, Maik’l Hines, Clay Kennely, Shane “the Rock” Tierney, Ohanes Kejajian, Allison Lacey, Forrest Grimsley and Sean Johnson.

Pee Wees

The La Cañada Gladiator Pee Wee team improved to 4-2 last Saturday at Roosevelt High with a 31-0 defeat of the Boyle Heights Wolfpack.

Gladiator quarterbacks Eugene Gandara, Antoine Sutphen, David Whitaker and Will Harrity all played well. Gandara hit wide receiver Tyler “S Man” Schloessmann for a 63-yard score.

Running back Raheem Broadnex had a great day, and scored on a 10-yard run. Running backs Geoffrey Vaughns and Daniel Olson also ran well, and full back Joey Sedano had an outstanding game.

The blocking of offensive line of Kevin Figueroa, Jason Groves, Ryan McAleenan, Zack George, Ky Charlton, Don Greenberg and Jeff Reid dominated the game. Fullback Sean Dudley and halfback Aaron Simpson also ran well.

On defense, linebacker Ky Charlton played well as did hard hitting free safety Ricky Vaughns. Vaughns also scored on an interception. Linebacker Ryan McAleenan led the team in tackles, and blocked a punt that was recovered by Simpson who returned it to set up another score. Andrew Carcich had a sack. Tanner Hamilton also had his usual outstanding game at linebacker.

Rounding out the defense were Alex Bledsoe, Diego Lugo, Jason Groves, Ben Brown, Marty Vardanian, Andrew Carcich, Cochise Dobine, Martin Wolfenberger, Scott King, Kitty Guzman and Alex Reid.

Junior Midgets

The Boyle Heights Wolfpack blanked the La Cañada Junior Midgets, 20-0, last Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt High.

On offense, the Gladiators were led by quarterback Josh Hanson and the running of Miles Bevel, Ryan Martinez Matt Zilinsky and Daniel Alamillo.

The offensive line was led by center David Miller along with Kevin Hernandez, Jamie Dick, Chris Reid, Alex Reed and tight ends Ryan Rue and Payton Anderson. Wide receivers Tyree Mills, Matt Rojas and Sonny Kennelly also played well.

Matt Zilinsky and Daniel Alamillo anchored the defense and had their usual outstanding games. Mac Musso also played well at linebacker.

The defensive line of Kyle Calvillo, Blake Malone, Sobel and Johnny Chavez also played well. Tyree Mills, Nick Trowbridge Nick Allen and Dodge Williams anchored the secondary.

Midgets

On Sunday evening at Nogales High in La Puente, the La Cañada Gladiator Midgets continued undefeated with a 21-6 victory over the Cowboys of Walnut Diamond Bar.

Quarterback Rob Paton led the Gladiators with passes to wide receiver Andrew Weissburg and Chris Semper. He also ran for 17 yards on a third and long to set up the Gladiators’ first score, a nine-yard run by half back Evan King. King added another score on a one -yard run in the third quarter. Following a diving interception by linebacker Sam Dodge, full back Adam Ross took the ball up the middle for a 48-yard score.

Kicker Karsen Reedy was a perfect three-for-three in extra points. Half back Ryan Eberhart was the workhorse for the Gladiators’ offense, and rushed for close to 100 yards. On offense, the Gladiators substituted freely along the line of scrimmage but still dominated the game behind the blocking of Sean Denney, Bob Baggot, Kyle Cota, Sean Lacey, Mike Ryder, Brendon Costi, Erik Dowling, and center Tyler Hurley-McClure

The Gladiator defense played well. Middle linebacker Adam Ross led the team in tackles, while Dodge and Eberhart also had outstanding games as outside linebackers.

Cornerback Chris Sember had several key stops, including a great tackle on fourth down to stop a Cowboys’ drive deep in Gladiator territory.

Both Dodge and Weissburg had interceptions. Interior lineman Mike Ryder and Erik Dowling both had key sacks.

Safety Francis Clougherty made a touchdown-saving tackle in the second quarter. Francis Sean Lacey and Evan King combined for four tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Lacey and Ryde, who had three sacks, also caused two fumbles, one of which was recovered by Dowling to set up the Gladiators’ first score. Defensive tackle Karsen Reedy had two tackles for losses.

Rounding out the defense were Kris Durham, Lacey, King, Baggot and Anthony Campbell and Ryan Gee.
