LC Boys’ Baseball Remains Undefeated

The La Cañada boys’ varsity baseball team won its seventh game in a row last Friday, defeating visiting South Pasadena, 7-3, in Rio Hondo League action.

The Spartans improved to 7-0 overall and to 2-0 in league. They hosted San Marino in a league contest on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

La Cañada will travel to Temple City for a league game today (Thursday) at 3:15 p.m. The Spartans will not play again until after spring break when they will host Blair in a league tussle on Thursday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m.

The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead, but the Spartans scored a run in the third inning to tie the score at 1-1.

T.J. Trumbo singled, stole second, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and raced home on a wild pitch.

La Cañada took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Matt Motia walked and eventually scored, but South Pasadena went back out in front, 3-2, in the top of the fifth

La Cañada exploded for five runs in the fifth inning, which included singles by Trumbo, Mitchell Maseredjian, Kelson Brown and Austin Brady, to take the lead and keep it.

Spartans’ starter Brady went the distance to gain his second victory. He allowed three hits and struck out four.

Maseredjian went 4-for-4 with a double. Trumbo went 2-for-3 to up his average to .545. The Spartans also stole eight bases off South Pasadena pitching.

The Spartans are ranked fifth overall in the CIF-Southern Section Division V according to the the CIF-SS 2005 coaches’ baseball rankings as of March 21.
