David Thomas Mohorc

Former La Cañadan David Thomas Mohorc died Aug. 9 at his home in Newhall at the age of 62. His death was attributed to liver cancer.

He was born February 7, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo. He served in United States Marine Corps for four years, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

David called La Cañada Flintridge home for 22 years. For nearly four decades he was involved construction. He was also a coach of Glendale All American Football and Glendale Girls Little League Softball.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David served in Bishopric for five years. He was also a Cub master, Sunday school president, Young Men leader, and Temple worker.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jean Warren Mohorc, of Newhall; son Robert A. Mohorc (Michelle), of Upland; and daughter Shirley Jean Cornwall (Jon), of La Cañada Flintridge. He also leaves brothers Bob, Joe, John and Dan Mohorc; sisters Joan Nelson and Nancy Winkershine and his 90-year-old mother, Lorraine Danis Mohorc. Also surviving are grandchildren Joshua David Shafer, Tayla Rhea Shafer, Justin Spencer Cornwall, Megan Elizabeth Cornwall, James David Cornwall, Blake Steven Philbrook, Kathryn Lynn Mohorc and Noah Shane Mohorc. Preceding him in death was Amanda Ruth Cornwall.

Services are set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 13, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 24915 Peachland Ave., Newhall.

Memorial contributions may be made in the name of David T. Mohorc to the American Red Cross.
