The Flintridge Prep boys’ varsity basketball team didn’t have much of a chance against La Cañada last Saturday night in the La Cañada Holiday Classic Tournament.

The Spartans dropped the Rebels, 74-33, to fall to 2-3 for the season. Prep continued participation in the tournament until Tuesday. No results were available at press time.

Prep hosted South Pasadena yesterday (Wednesday) in a nonleague contest.

The Rebels will host their annual alumni game tomorrow (Friday) at 4 p.m. and will compete in the San Gabriel High Tournament from next Tuesday through next Friday.

La Cañada went up 20-10 at the end of the first quarter and held the Rebels to two points in the second quarter to up their lead to 46-12 at the half. Despite a Prep resurgence in the third quarter, the Spartans still led 61-30.

Daniel Hurley topped the Rebels with 15 points. Andrew Beck followed with 12 points and Brady Thomson and Phillip West each scored three points.

Earlier, Prep’s Beck pumped in a career-high 30 points to help his team top Los Angeles Lincoln, 52-39, in tournament pool play on Dec. 14.

Both Prep and Lincoln were tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter and the Rebels only had a 23-21 lead at the half.

But, Prep opened up a 36-28 advantage after three quarters and outscored Lincoln, 16-11, in the fourth quarter.

Besides Beck, who hit four 3-point baskets, Thomson tossed in 13 points. Others were Hurley who chipped in four points and West and Mark Rodli who scored three points each and Matt Adesuyan who finished with one point.
