Ten Years Ago …

Rebuilding efforts were underway at the strip mall on Foothill Boulevard at Gould Avenue, where La Cañada Flintridge’s most disastrous fire in history had taken place in November 1995. Bank of America announced it hoped to be in operation in its new quarters by Thanksgiving of ’96.

Twenty Years Ago …

In an effort to upgrade a school district music program that had suffered from a lack of funding for several years, the La Cañada school board heard a recommendation to hire a music consultant to conduct a general music program for all students in grades one through six. The cost would be $20,000, according to a report. Also recommended was a proposal to reimburse the Assistance League of Flintridge $100 per district student enrolled in the ALF’s Fine Arts Academy.

Thirty Years Ago …

Pasadena’s attempt in late May 1976 to annex the Jet Propulsion Laboratory didn’t make it onto the Los Angeles County Agency Formation docket and was returned to the city. It was the third setback for Pasadena in the case since March of that year, as the 177 JPL acres remained in a part of the then proposed city of La Cañada-Flintridge.

Forty Years Ago …

La Cañada School Board Trustees in May 1966 approved the installation of food and drink vending machines on the La Cañada High School campus on a trial basis. Items to be made available included fresh fruit, fruit juice, ice cream, soft drinks, chips and cookies.

Fifty Years Ago …

Pastel-colored formal gowns worn by both outgoing and incoming officers of the La Cañada Thursday Club carried out the springtime theme used by Mrs. John J. McBride, installation officer for the ceremony she planned. Mrs. Oscar Forrow, club president, was attired in a formal of pink satin embroidered in sequins and pearls.
