Boosters dinner/auction a Spartan success

The La Cañada High School Booster Club hosted its annual fundraising dinner and auction last Saturday evening to benefit the athletic and other extra-curricular programs at the school.

In true Spartan style, the Oakmont Country Club was decked in red and gold as parents, Booster club members and other friends of La Cañada High enjoyed perusing the silent auction items before sitting down to enjoy a performance by the La Cañada High School Chamber Singers.

“Usually women take care of decorations for these kinds of things,” joked Booster vice president of public relations Steven Brown. “But the club was impressed will the skill of us guys.”

Current high school athletes and pep squad members volunteered for the evening, selling raffle tickets and helping to check guests in at the front doors.

Spartan cheer member Taylor Segal said she appreciates what the Boosters do for school programs.

“They provided us with our pep squad spirit T-shirts,” she said.

Softball player Amanda Ulf echoed Segal’s thoughts.

“They raise money for new equipment like helmets and balls,” Ulf said. “It’s really great for the athletics programs.”

The evening was a success, with the club raising enough money to meet their fall obligations, which continue to grow. The Booster Club will be able to go ahead with their next big purchase, a Tennant Gym Floor sweeper that will help clean and preserve the gym floor, thanks to those who bid on the paddle auction item.
