John L. Brodhead
John L. Brodhead passed away Jan. 16, 2008 at his La Cañada home, surrounded by family, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born March 26, 1924 in Detroit, Mich., to Captain Richard and Mrs. Elise Brodhead, John proudly served his country as a Navy pilot during World War II.
Diagnosed with polio late in the war, he was sent to Coronado Naval Hospital in San Diego to recuperate. It was there he met his beloved wife of 61 years, Sally, then a Navy lieutenant and registered nurse.
John and partner Lee Siteman started Siteman/Brodhead Advertising in 1962. It grew into a thriving boutique agency with an enviable list of high profile clients.
In the early 1970s, John and his friends Gail Bruce and Fr. Enda Hefferman, OFM Cap, initiated a building program and raised funds for the gymnasium at St. Francis High School in La Cañada, where John’s sons were educated.
Remaining active in retirement, John provided pro bono services and counsel to many nonprofit and religious organizations and was a frequent letter writer published in many Southland newspapers and national publications.
He was an active member of Oakmont Country Club and St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife Sally; daughters Elise and Barbara; sons John Jr., MD and Steve; cousin Sister Jan McNabb; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A rosary was held Tuesday at St. Bede and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday. He will be laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
Michael S. Wallace
Michael Steven Wallace, 46, died Jan. 18 of injuries resulting from a fire in his Palm Springs apartment.
Michael was born in Palo Alto. He attended La Cañada schools, graduating in 1980. He served in the Navy and for the past few years lived and worked in the Palm Springs area.
He is survived by his parents, Bob and Beverly Wallace of La Cañada; his brother Bill, of Vancouver BC; and two sisters, Lisa Olsen of Oceanside and Teri Byrne of Westlake Village.
Services were private.
