Purple Sharks are Super-Senior champs

The Gillespie Insurance Purple Sharks won a 1-0 thriller over the Kovacs & Associates team Tuesday night to take the Super Senior Division Championship.

Stephanie Bathke and K&A; starter Lauren Cox battled pitch for pitch combining for 30 strikeouts, but in the fifth inning, Joelle Martinez doubled to right and Gracie Kenny hit the next pitch for a double of her own to knock in the winning run. Becca Stoker and Koko Tavera also had hits to pace the Sharks. Bathke threw a one-hitter and went the seven-inning distance to get the big win for the Sharks.

It was a triumphant season for the Sharks, which included a 9-0 record against teams from surrounding communities. The 4-0 mark against the Sierra Madre league is also a first.
