Kiwanis-Am sings carols at VHH

Following years of tradition Kiwanis-AM members went caroling last month at Verdugo Hills Hospital.

With Marie Hyland at the key board, they started on the 8th Floor of the hospital and, singing their way down through the floors they delighted patients as well as hospital staff with their Christmas carols. Their thank-you was the smiling faces on patients who enjoyed a spiritual lift during the holidays.

Las Candelas help at VMH party

Helping put on the annual Christmas Party at Verdugo Mental Health in Glendale is just one of the few things that Las Candelas members do to help in the community.

Each year a party is given for the clients, siblings, and family members that go to VHM for help and treatments. Mary Lane was the chairperson for the event this year.

Las Candelas members wrapped gifts for two days prior to the party. Helping with the gift-wrapping and the party were Mary Lane, Carole De Paul, Glady Kabateck, Margaret Steenken and Diane Johnson. Each child and their siblings were given a Christmas gift and had their picture taken with Santa. Santa was Abel Makkar, a security guard at the facility. The Kiwanis Club served their annual pancake breakfast for everyone plus there were many other good things to eat. There were approximately 500 in attendance. Dr. Glen Roberts, the founder of Glen Roberts Child Study Center, was also in attendance. There was a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and a large bounce house for the children to bounce and jump in.

Las Candalas raises the funds to help with the facilities they are involved with by having a biannual fashion show luncheon. The fundraiser will be held on March 2, at the Marriott in Burbank.
