Shakesperean workshops for teens

Shakespearean workshops taught by professional actors and coaches will be offered to thespians at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and male students at area high schools who are interested in trying out for the school’s spring production of “Twelfth Night.”

Mark Bommarito will direct the play which will be performed March 12-14 on the FSHA campus.

An interpretation workshop focusing on monologues from “Twelfth Night” will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 5 and 6 in the school auditorium.

Taught by Sam R. Ross and Matthew Kellen Burgos, the two-day workshop will include techniques that allow students to demystify the language of Shakespeare and to personalize the text.

Ross, a member of Actors’ Equity, AFTRA and SAG, has over 35 years of acting, producing and directing experience.

Burgos is an award-winning director, an actor and is the artistic director of VIA Studios.

A Shakespearean language, character and theme workshop will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 7 to help students understand Shakespearean language and sentence structure and to be able to improvise in Shakespearean style. This workshop will be taught by Matt Gourley, an actor, teacher and illustrator, who can be seen in the latest Budweiser and McDonald’s commercials.

Monologues are posted ononline at www.fsha.org/theatre/production/audition, where students interested in appearing in “Twelfth Night” can sign up for audition slots and for the workshops.
