Challenger announces school board run

David Wilcox of Palm Drive announced this week he will run for a seat on the La Canada Unified School District Governing Board.

The election is set for Nov. 3; the filing period for new candidates closes Aug. 7.

Three seats will be open in the election, those of Susan Boyd, Joel Peterson and Scott Tracy. All three have announced they will seek reelection.

Wilcox, no relation to governing board member Cindy Wilcox, said in his campaign materials that he favors taking a “much tougher line with the teachers’ union in negotiations and in weeding out underperforming teachers, pursuing charter status for La Canada schools, rejecting federal monies that come with ‘strings’ and advocating a rational ‘3-Rs’ curriculum such as that developed by Hillsdale College.”

Wilcox, a PhD graduate of Caltech, has 30 years’ teaching experience.
