Phyllis M. Benefiel

Longtime La Cañada resident Phyllis Mary Benefiel, 87, died July 11 at a skilled nursing facility in Glendale.

She was born in Great Bend, Kan., on July 4, 1923. After graduating from the University of Kansas, she wed Bill Benefiel, who later became a physician. In 1953 the couple settled in La Cañada and reared their children here. Bill preceded her in death in 1998.

Phyllis Benefiel was active in the Glendale Assistance League, La Cañada Thursday Club, PEO and La Cañada Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her son Philip Benefiel; daughters Cyndy Mayer and Susan Park; and six grandchildren.
