Obituary: Barbara Ann Melone

Longtime Verdugo Hills Hospital nurse Barbara Ann Melone died Oct. 10.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on Feb. 25, 1932 and moved with her parents and sister to Glendale in 1938. She attended Incarnation School and Hoover High School.

She started a long career in nursing as a graduate of St. Vincent’s College of Nursing. She later received a master’s degree in nursing from UCLA.

She loved to travel; she was also an accomplished musician and particularly loved her viola. She was a regular member of community orchestras from high school through most of her later career.

She is survived by her sisters Carol and Deborah and brothers John and Martin, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Callanan & Woods Scovern Mortuary, 511 S. Central Avenue, Glendale 91204.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Incarnation Church, 1001 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. Interment will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills.
